Every day, East SOS evacuation crews rescue people from dangerous frontline areas. Most evacuees are individuals with limited mobility who require special attention and support throughout the evacuation process. The physical condition of older adults in these regions is rapidly deteriorating due to chronic stress and severely reduced access to medical services. As a result, many of them urgently need mobility devices.

The East SOS team provides ongoing support to evacuees at transit centers in the Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions, assisting with onward transfers and resettlement, as well as offering psychological, social, and legal support. To make this journey safer and more comfortable for people with limited mobility, in October our organization received essential rehabilitation equipment from the International Volunteer Logistics Center “Marlog,” including:

  • 10 wheelchairs
  • 25 walkers
  • 5 pairs of crutches
  • 35 walking sticks

This assistance will be provided at the transit points in Pavlohrad and Voloske (Dnipropetrovsk region). Rehabilitation aids will be distributed to evacuees who need them, helping maintain independence and safety at every stage of their evacuation.

“For people with limited mobility, evacuation and the subsequent journey to resettlement is a real challenge. At transit points, our specialists meet the rescued, reassure them, and provide the necessary support. Thanks to our partners, we can provide people with mobility aids so that they can safely continue their journey and feel supported in this difficult moment,” said Oksana Kolesnyk, Humanitarian Manager at East SOS.

Every contribution from our partners makes evacuations safer and gives people a sense of care and support. On behalf of the East SOS Charity Foundation, we sincerely thank the International Volunteer Logistics Center Marlog, as well as Libre Ukraine Toulouse, Joseph Project International, and Israeli Friends of Ukraine for their trust and assistance to people with limited mobility.

Earlier, we shared how the East SOS team welcomes evacuees at transit points.
