Accessible accommodation during wartime means safety, dignity, and the ability to live in decent conditions after evacuation.

East SOS has completed the renovation of a collective site in Lykhivka, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, located within a local social services center. Previously designed to accommodate only 17 people, the site can now host 85 residents, including people with reduced mobility.

The renovation included comprehensive repairs to the building’s second and third floors, including:

– replacement of the electrical wiring;

– installation of plumbing and essential fixtures;

– renovation of floors, walls, and ceilings;

– replacement of windows and doors;

– installation of an elevator.

“After evacuation, it is important not only to have a roof over your head but also to feel safe and be able to move around comfortably in your new accommodation. This is particularly important for older people and persons with disabilities. The elevator will allow residents to go outside independently, interact with their neighbors, use shared facilities, and reach the shelter during air raid alerts. Our goal was to create an environment where people can feel more confident and gradually regain a sense of stability,” said Anastasiia Kalinina, Head of the Project Department at East SOS.

The total cost of the renovation exceeded UAH 10.5 million. The Foundation will continue furnishing the site and providing essential items to make living conditions more comfortable for residents.

The renovation was carried out by East SOS as part of the activities of the Consortium TERA, with financial support from the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund (UHF). The Consortium TERA was established by CF Team4UA.

East SOS recently completed the renovation of the collective site in Stepan, Rivne Oblast.
