In the town of Stepan, Rivne Oblast, EAST SOS has completed renovations in one of the buildings of the Horyn Sanatorium, turning it into a collective site for people forced to leave their homes due to hostilities in frontline areas.

On the third floor, our team fully renovated 19 rooms, replacing windows and doors, repairing floors, walls, and ceilings, and updating the plumbing. Three rooms on the first floor were redesigned to be accessible for people with limited mobility.

Each room now has its own private bathroom with a shower, toilet, and sink, making the stay safer and more comfortable. Special handrails were installed in the first-floor bathrooms, and a ramp was added at the main entrance.

“Establishing new collective sites is key to ensuring that people fleeing frontline areas know they have a safe place to stay. Having these prepared spaces allows us to organize evacuations more quickly and help people leave dangerous locations,” said EAST SOS Executive Director Kateryna Skrypova.

The renovation cost over 5,000,000 UAH and rooms are gradually being equipped with furniture such as wardrobes, nightstands, and other essentials being gradually installed.

Once completed, the updated building will be ready to welcome evacuees.

The renovation of the collective site was carried out by EAST SOS as part of the activities of the TERA Consortium, with financial support from the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund (UHF). The TERA Consortium was established by Team4UA Charity Foundation.
