Multiple studies indicate that rural populations face more discrimination than urban ones. This underscores the need to initiate changes, like gender policies, in the regions to improve the protection of people’s rights. Doing so will provide a clearer understanding of how Ukrainians live and what kind of protection they require. This is the view of Valeria Dolhoyer, a lawyer from the East SOS Foundation’s human rights division. That’s why she joined the board of the Committee on Gender Policy of the National Association of Lawyers of Ukraine as its secretary.

Her goal is to highlight the importance of gender-oriented governance in the regions and ensure that the state’s protection of fundamental human rights extends throughout the country.

Valeria Dolhoyer also provides legal services at “Zatyshno space” in Kropyvnytskyi, a safe space operated by the East SOS CF. This center’s work is part of the project “Response Consortium in Ukraine: Provision of Intersectoral Humanitarian Assistance to the Population Affected by the Conflict in Ukraine,” funded by the USAID Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance. The East SOS Foundation serves as an implementation partner for the humanitarian organization CARE.
