“The global humanitarian community’s interest in evacuation is fading, but the demand for evacuation is growing.”
Yaroslav Korniienko, Evacuation Coordinator at the East SOS Charity Foundation, spoke about the current situation during the United News telethon.
The humanitarian situation in eastern and southern Ukraine continues to worsen. The hottest spots right now include Bilytske, Dobropillia, Kostiantynivka, and Druzhkivka in the Donetsk region, where the front line is actively shifting. Mass evacuations of civilians are underway in these areas, including people with limited mobility who require specialized assistance.
Our teams also respond to urgent requests in the Sumy region. During periods of intense shelling, we evacuated people from Krasnopillia. Evacuations are ongoing in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where a mandatory evacuation order has been issued.
The Kherson region is under daily shelling. While some residents continue to delay evacuation, our teams persist in helping those ready to leave danger behind.
“Russian forces are targeting civilian vehicles – from private cars to evacuation teams, including the State Emergency Service and the White Angel police special forces. We operate wherever we can reach quickly. Unfortunately, we don’t have armored vehicles – only coordination, speed, and electronic intelligence to help us avoid detection by drones.”
Evacuation efforts are increasingly collaborative. The East SOS Foundation partners with the White Angel police special unit, the NGO Base UA, and the Children of the New Generation Charitable Foundation – organizations equipped with armored transport. Evacuations are often carried out in stages: some teams extract people from frontline areas, while others receive and transport them further to safety.
“There are no more vehicles. No more resources. We beg people – don’t wait until the last moment. Too often, we get calls only after a drone strike has destroyed half the house. If someone survives, it’s only because they happened to be outside in the garden.”
