Spanish War Correspondent Joins East SOS Evacuation Mission in Kramatorsk Again
Kramatorsk remains one of the key cities from which the East SOS team carries out evacuations. Since summer 2026, the security situation in the city and surrounding villages has deteriorated: the frontline has moved to within less than 15 kilometers, while an estimated 34,000 people still remain in the city, according to local authorities.
On September 15, two East SOS crews helped 10 civilians escape danger, including seven people with reduced mobility, together with their pets. During this evacuation mission in Kramatorsk, our crew was accompanied by well-known Spanish war correspondent and photographer María Senovilla. For the Spanish outlet ABC, she documented the work of the East SOS evacuation crew and their mission to reach people who needed help leaving the danger zone.
As winter approaches, residents of frontline settlements may be left without electricity, water, heating, access to medical care, or food. In such conditions, evacuation can become a matter of survival. East SOS crew members Anna Baranova, Vladyslav Poianskyi, and Eduard Skoryk carefully carry frightened animals in their carriers, support older people by the arm, and help them board the evacuation bus headed for a transit center.
“The humanity and compassion the East SOS crew shows to every person during an evacuation are truly inspiring. At such a difficult time, for people forced to leave their homes under daily russian attacks, this support is invaluable. As a correspondent working in Donetsk Oblast and constantly witnessing the horrors of war, I am genuinely glad that there are people and organizations helping those who are most vulnerable,” says María Senovilla.
This is not the first time María has joined one of our missions. We are grateful to her for helping tell an international audience about people who need safety and support.
As a reminder, together with partners, the East SOS evacuation crews have already helped rescue more than 102,000 people from frontline settlements, including more than 17,000 people with reduced mobility.
These activities are carried out within the project “Integrated Comprehensive Support and Protection for Vulnerable Evacuees” implemented by East SOS with financial support from the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund (UHF).
