Comprehensive Support for Vulnerable Populations: From Rescue to Recovery

For older people and persons with disabilities who require medical care, long-distance travel can be especially challenging. Responding to a request from the management of the Selydove Central City Hospital, a municipal non-profit healthcare institution currently relocated to Odesa Oblast, East SOS arranged social transportation for six patients from Poltava Oblast who needed to continue their treatment there.

The Foundation’s evacuation crews have extensive experience evacuating people from frontline hromadas and organizing their transportation onward.

“This support is incredibly important for our hospital. We are grateful to the East SOS team for helping organize timely transportation, as such journeys can be particularly difficult for older people and those requiring inpatient care. All of these people had previously been evacuated from frontline hromadas. Because of the war, they have lost their homes and now require special attention, medical treatment, and care,” said Nataliia Komar, Director of Selydove Central City Hospital.

Since 2024, our Foundation has been providing ongoing support to Selydove Central City Hospital. While the hospital was still operating in Donetsk Oblast, the East SOS team promptly supplied construction materials to repair damage caused by one of the russian attacks. Later, we delivered modern medical training equipment worth nearly UAH 230,000 to help medical staff practice resuscitation techniques and injection procedures.

In addition, through a partnership between the Foundation and the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine, we helped ensure long-term medical care for 20 evacuees from frontline areas at Selydove Central City Hospital last year.

The social transportation to Odesa Oblast was provided as part of the EMPOWER project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) together with the European Union and carried out by GIZ Ukraine.
