Hello! I’m vyshyvanka. Today, May 21, people celebrate my special day – Vyshyvanka Day. I am woven from threads that carry the warmth of human hands, family stories, and the power of generations. My embroidery reflects the traditions of Ukraine’s different regions, the memory of ancestors, and a deep love for home.

People wear me on festive occasions and in everyday life, keep me safe in family chests, and pass me down to the next generations. Today, I carry not only the memory of the past but also the stories of people living through war – enduring air raid alerts, evacuation, and the long wait for peace.

Today, in Uzhhorod, Vinnytsia, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kharkiv, and Kramatorsk, the East SOS team is wearing vyshyvankas as well. Our team members help others, support people forced to leave their homes, work in frontline hromadas, and stand by those in need every day. Despite hundreds of kilometers between us, we are united by the same values: care, humanity, and love for Ukraine.

I come in many forms – simple or vibrant, adorned with ancient symbols or contemporary patterns. Yet in every region of Ukraine, I am cherished with the same warmth and reverence because I remind people of home, loved ones, and the ties that unite us. I know that even in times of war, Ukrainians continue to preserve their culture. I remain a symbol of hope, resilience, and unity of our people. I believe that after Ukraine’s victory, we will once again celebrate Vyshyvanka Day together – on peaceful and free Ukrainian soil.
