The East SOS team participated in a meeting at the President’s Office on the development of the volunteer movement.

On September 25, under the leadership of the Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Iryna Vereshchuk, a meeting was held regarding developing the volunteer movement in Ukraine.

The meeting of the participating members of the NGO Alliance was attended by the leaders of volunteer organizations, including the representative of our charitable foundation “East SOS” – legal analyst Yaroslav Taranets.

The meeting was convened to discuss the prospects for the development of the volunteer movement in Ukraine.

“Open interaction between public organizations and the authorities ensures transparency, accountability, and consideration of society’s needs, contributing to more effective decision-making and rights protection. This strengthens trust in democratic processes and allows joint initiatives to be implemented,” Yaroslav Taranets, a legal analyst of the East SOS BF, emphasized.

Many important initiatives regarding the areas of work were discussed, the main of which are:

  • introduction of insurance for people engaged in volunteer activities because specialized companies refuse to insure volunteers, especially those working on the frontline;
  • introducing amendments to the legislation for the purpose of payment of financial assistance in case of death or disability of a volunteer;
  • introduction of the official Volunteer Day in Ukraine.
  • development of the concept of the State program for the development of volunteer activities in Ukraine until 2030.

“Volunteers are a valuable resource of our country. They helped to resist in the first months of the war. They help us all even now, bringing our victory closer every day. The state must maintain proper conditions for volunteer work. This requires a constant dialogue between the authorities and volunteers. Because they are an important part of our stability,” Iryna Vereshchuk said during the meeting.

Advocacy activities are carried out within the framework of the program “Support for War-Affected Vulnerable Populations and Residents of Remote Areas of Ukraine” and are implemented by the “East SOS” Charity Foundation with the financial support of the European Union.
