CF “East SOS” Team Rebuilds Serhii’s House in Tetianivka Village

Serhii, 72, has been passionate about wood carving for almost ten years. This craft helps him push away anxious thoughts and embrace each day with joy. His home in Tetianivka, a frontline village in Donetsk Oblast, was damaged by russian shelling in early 2022. The reconstruction team of the Charity Foundation “East SOS” managed to restore the roof, insulate the attic, and replace several windows.
At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Serhii, his wife, and their daughter adopted five children who had lost their parents due to russian attacks. To ensure the children’s safety, the family relocated to Germany. Serhii chose to stay behind — to look after the household and take care of his family’s home.
“To keep my mind off anxious thoughts, I’d look for bizarre tree roots while grazing cows — and later turn them into wooden sculptures,” the man recounts.
This is how the craftsman’s collection came to include dozens of unique wooden compositions, now adorning the walls of his home. Another wellspring of inspiration for Serhii is the music by The Beatles — his favorite tunes often fill his house, bringing both inspiration and tranquility.
Since August 2024, the CF “East SOS” team has rebuilt 639 houses in Donetsk Oblast.
