July 27 – Healthcare Workers’ Day
Today, on July 27, Ukraine marks Healthcare Workers’ Day. This is a day of gratitude to those who continue to save lives, and a day of remembrance for those who carried out their duty until their last breath.
Air-raid alerts, shelling, blackouts, and assistance in frontline hromadas – for more than four years, Ukrainian healthcare workers have been saving lives amid the full-scale war.
During evacuations from frontline areas, the crews of the EAST SOS Charity Foundation work side by side with healthcare workers to help residents. While saving others, they often face the danger of enemy shelling themselves.
This April, the Head of the World Health Organization Country Office in Ukraine reported more than 2,900 documented attacks on the healthcare system during the full-scale invasion. In 2025, Minister of Health Viktor Liashko stated that 510 doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers had been killed.
These were people who treated others, stayed on duty, responded to emergency calls, helped the wounded, and remained beside those who needed them until the very end.
We would like to thank everyone who, despite extremely difficult conditions, continues to treat, support, and fight for the lives of others. With gratitude and respect, we remember the healthcare workers who carried out their duty until the end and whose lives were taken by russia.
