Because of the ever-present danger in the frontline hromadas (communities) of Donetsk Oblast, many people are forced to leave their homes behind.

In January and February 2026, the East SOS team, with financial support from the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund (UHF), saved 526 people from the frontline areas. The majority of evacuation requests were received from Druzhkivka, Kramatorsk, and Sloviansk.

In addition to evacuation, 422 people received logistical support during this period, including safe departure, accompaniment, and assistance throughout their journey.

“People are leaving frontline settlements. Forced to leave their homes behind, they often have nothing but a backpack and no clear idea of where to go next. Our mission is to do more than just help people reach safety. We support evacuees at every stage: from assisting at transit centers and helping them access social and medical services, to finding temporary housing and eventually a permanent place to live,” said Ivan Saverskyi, Evacuation Logistics Manager at East SOS.

The East SOS team continues to evacuate and provide logistical support to people from frontline hromadas.

This work is part of the project Integrated Comprehensive Support and Protection for Vulnerable Evacuees, implemented by East SOS and funded by the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund (UHF).

Recently, we presented our experience of civilian evacuation at an international workshop in Warsaw.
