The city of Pokrovsk, where Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych — the creator of the world-famous Shchedryk (Carol of the Bells)—once lived and worked, is now fighting for survival.

The joyful melodies have been silenced in Pokrovsk. Instead, the air is filled with the hum of drones and the whistle of wind through shattered windows. These haunting sounds serve as a reminder of how fragile life is—how every home can crumble and every voice can be stilled.

Today, 10,000 people remain in Pokrovsk. This Christmas, they will seek refuge in basements, enduring bitter cold without reliable heating or electricity. Yet the carol that has become a symbol of light and hope continues to resonate across the globe, a testament to the resilience of Ukrainians. We will endure. We will not be broken.

The East SOS Charity Foundation is committed to a life-saving mission. From helping people find shelter to assisting with document restoration, social benefits, and medical care, we provide comprehensive support at no cost.
