East SOS Teams Aid Residents of Zaporizhzhia and Mykolaiv After Enemy Strikes
Day after day, russia continues its systematic attacks on Ukrainian cities and, leaving civilians to cope with loss, injury, damaged or destroyed homes. In response, the regional teams from East SOS are maintaining an active presence on the ground, providing rapid emergency assistance to those affected.
Zaporizhzhia
On the evening of February 17, russian forces attacked the city with a drone. According to Zaporizhzhia City Council Secretary Rehina Kharchenko, one person was killed and seven others were injured, including two children aged six and one and a half. The younger child is in critical condition. A total of 118 residential buildings were damaged.
Today, the East SOS team joined efforts to support residents affected by the strikes. Our lawyer provided 10 legal consultations, specifically guiding people through the process of filing claims for damaged property. A psychologist conducted three individual sessions, helping them process the shock and restore a sense of emotional balance after the attack.

Mykolaiv
On the night of February 18, russian drones targeted a residential neighbourhood. One house was completely destroyed, while nearly 20 others were damaged. Miraculously, no residents were injured. However, the city was soon hit by freezing rain, leaving some families to face harsh weather conditions in damaged homes or left without a roof over their heads.
Despite difficult weather conditions, residents and municipal workers have been working side-by-side to deal with the aftermath of the attack. The East SOS team also arrived on-site to support the community: our specialists provided nine legal consultations and seven consultations on access to social services.

“People are coming to us with urgent and painful questions about compensation for damaged or destroyed homes. They need to know the specific steps to take, which documents are required, and the deadlines for filing claims and documenting the damage. Our specialists also advise on submitting claims to the International Register of Damage. Many families have been left homeless, as some houses are currently too dangerous to live in. We are providing these survivors, including internally displaced persons, with information on humanitarian aid programs to help them get back on their feet,” said East SOS case manager Iryna Hnatiuk.
