EAST SOS Supports Residents of Dnipro After Russian Drone Attacks
On the night of January 7, russian forces carried out a massive attack across Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. The cities of Dnipro, Nikopol, Kryvyi Rih, and the Vasylkivka hromada (community) in Synelnykove Raion were affected.
Eight people in Dnipro were injured in a drone strike, including two young girls aged 8 and 16. SFires erupted across the city but were quickly contained. More than 10 apartment buildings, private homes, administrative buildings, and schools were damaged. The explosions shattered over 2,000 windows, and more than 20 tons of debris and glass were cleared from the streets. Critical infrastructure was also hit, including a boiler station, heating pipelines, and the public transport depot.
Throughout the day, EAST SOS specialists were on site to help residents stabilize their emotional state and provide social and legal assistance.
“In the affected neighborhoods, we met many people who were living alone. They were confused, extremely stressed, and in shock. I helped them calm down, explained where to seek further assistance, and left our contact information for ongoing support. We agreed that if needed, they could receive psychological consultations online. For many, it was important to hear that our support does not end with one meeting – we stay alongside them as long as needed,” shared Olha Chukhno, psychologist at EAST SOS.
The team provided 19 psychological consultations, 19 social consultations, and 107 legal consultations. Lawyers and social workers assisted residents in submitting claims for damaged property via the Diia app.
“Among the affected were two older women with mobility impairments. We are providing continued support to help them claim compensation for their damaged property. It is essential for us to ensure they receive the state-mandated payments and necessary assistance,” said Yevheniia Pinchuk, lawyer at EAST SOS.
