East SOS Organized Support Meetings for IDPs in Truskavets
In December 2025, East SOS held four group sessions on psychological resilience for 39 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Truskavets, using the “I Can” manual.
During the meetings, psychologist Iryna Kostenko guided participants to notice their own stress reactions, recognize tension in the body, and practice simple exercises for self-support “here and now.” The sessions focused on cultivating mindfulness, daily self-care routines, and restoring a sense of inner stability.
Participants were encouraged to reflect on their personal experiences, identifying the causes of exhaustion, its physical manifestations, and the areas where tension often accumulates. Together, they explored how the nervous system responds to prolonged stress, what helps recovery after difficult events, and practical ways to support themselves in daily life. Techniques were immediately practiced through breathing exercises, gentle movements, and focused attention on bodily sensations.
“For me, these meetings were an opportunity to stop and finally listen to myself. I felt the tension in my body ease, and I realized how I could support myself,” said Alla, a participant of the practice.
With each session, the sense of calm and safety in the group grew stronger. Participants shared personal observations, asked questions, and listened attentively to one another. The space allowed them to connect with their inner state without hiding fatigue or confusion.
“I memorized simple self-support techniques that will really help in everyday life. When I feel anxious or tired, I already know what to do,” said participant Yevhen.
The final stage of the meetings was held in a relaxed atmosphere, with reflection and a brief summary over tea. Participants reported feeling better after the practices and experiencing increased inner stability.
Each participant received the “I Can” manual, created by the East SOS team in 2021. The manual contains exercises designed to provide support in challenging moments and can be used independently in everyday life.
The training was implemented as part of the project “Empowering Civil Society for Nonviolent Conflict Transformation with State Actors”, with the financial support of KURVE Wustrow.
Earlier, East SOS conducted training for civil servants, psychologists, and activists.
