Protection and essential psychosocial support of the war-affected population of Ukraine’s frontline regions

Day by day, russia shells peaceful towns and villages, leaving more and more frontline communities devastated. The challenges Ukraine has faced since the start of russia’s full-scale invasion require a united response and strong partnerships to support people affected by the war.

The East SOS Charity Foundation has successfully completed its previous project supporting people affected by russia’s aggression and is now implementing a new initiative with financial support from the German Federal Foreign Office.

Our regional teams in Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Dnipro stand by people at every stage – from explaining the need for timely evacuation, to providing psychological, social, and legal support in transit centres and collective sites for evacuees.

Our teams support those affected by russian attacks on residential buildings. Our specialists travel to shelling sites, providing psychological first aid, explaining how to apply for compensation for damaged property, and helping to restore lost documents.

We provide continuous support within the Zatyshno space network in Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Zaporizhzhia. Here, people can rest and recover, attend training sessions, receive professional consultations and job search support, and gradually adapt to a new life. Both adults and children find support here while socializing, exploring creative activities, building new social connections, and building new friendships.

By September 2027, the East SOS regional teams plan to support more than 8,000 people as part of this project.

Project activities include:

  • psychological support;
  • counselling and case management for people in difficult life circumstances;
  • legal support through individual consultations, group sessions, and awareness-raising events;
  • information sessions and training on safe evacuation, social support for veterans and their families, and the prevention of gender-based violence;
  • socialization activities, including workshops, art therapy, adult support groups, and teen clubs;
  • Easy Camp catch-up camps to help overcome educational losses for 130 participants from frontline hromadas;
  • creative workshops, developmental activities, and quests aimed at children’s holistic development and emotional support.

“We are deeply grateful to the German Federal Foreign Office for its long-term support of our work in frontline hromadas. Direct funding allows us to keep our network of spaces in the regions operating consistently, respond to emergencies, and stay close to people where help is needed most,” said project manager Anastasiia Petriuk.

With the support of international partners and through joint efforts, we are able to help people face the challenges of war and rebuild their lives in the most difficult circumstances.

These activities are carried out within the framework of the project Protection and Psychosocial Support for War-Affected Populations in Ukraine’s Frontline Regions (2026–2027), with financial support from the German Federal Foreign Office.
