East SOS Brings Together 25 Teachers from Relocated Schools for a Five-Day Digital Competencies Training in Lviv
October 27-31, the East SOS education team organized a training on digital competencies and media literacy for educators as part of the School Up project. The five-day training brought together 25 teachers from ten relocated schools from Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson oblasts.
The participants learned how to use online tools effectively, create interactive lessons, work with digital content, and identify risks in the digital environment.
Learning to use artificial intelligence for more effective collaborative work – along with tools such as online whiteboards, image animation, and apps that help pupils maintain a productive learning pace – can help pupils feel connected to their community even during online classes.
“The knowledge educators gained can be shared with their colleagues by organizing similar training sessions in their own schools. This will help make online learning in relocated schools safer, more effective, and engaging for children, while also strengthening the resilience of educational communities to cyber threats and disinformation from russia,” said Anna Kior, Education Programs Manager at East SOS.
The cybersecurity training took place at the Ukrainian Catholic University. Educators learned how to identify AI-generated “traces” on social media, understand how apps collect users’ personal data, and check the security of their own email accounts.
They also met with the Dean of UCU’s Faculty of Applied Sciences and took a tour of the university.
Despite temporary occupation and ongoing hostilities, Ukrainian schools continue to operate in new hromadas and under new conditions while pursuing the same mission: to be there for children. Since 2016, East SOS has supported educators, hromadas, and government authorities, helping strengthen communities and advance education even in the most challenging circumstances.
We organize training and workshops, provide equipment for online classes, and offer humanitarian, legal, and psychological support to teachers and schools. We also focus on developing digital competencies, providing psychosocial support and human rights education, and monitoring the condition of educational institutions in frontline regions.
The trainings for educators were organized by East SOS within the project “Strengthening the Capacities of Frontline and Relocated Schools in Ukraine/SCHOOL UP” implemented together with the Danish Helsinki Committee for Human Rights and supported by CISU.
