East SOS and the Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine Help Find Temporary Accommodation for 25 Senior Evacuees
Recently, 25 elderly people and people with disabilities requiring long-term nursing care were transferred for temporary accommodation to Snihurivka City Hospital in Mykolaiv Oblast, as well as to Cherkasy District Hospital and Horodyshche City Hospital in Cherkasy Oblast.
Police units, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES), and humanitarian organizations evacuated these people from the frontline areas. The East SOS team at the transit centers coordinated the evacuees’ further accommodation. Initially, the evacuees were accommodated at the Social Adaptation Center for People with Disabilities by NGO “Ocean of Kindness” in Dnipro, and later, in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine, we secured places for them in healthcare institutions.
The evacuees can stay in the hospitals for up to 60 days. The service includes daily care, help with personal needs, and provision of medications. In addition, people receive accommodation, meals, essential items, psychological support, and case management.
Among those transferred to Cherkasy Oblast was 64-year-old Anatolii from Sloviansk, evacuated by the East SOS team. The man suffered a stroke, which caused speech impairments; he uses a wheelchair and requires long-term rehabilitation. Since Anatolii lives alone and has no one to care for him, this support became vital for him.
Overall, single individuals aged 49 to 88 were relocated from Kostiantynivka, Druzhkivka, Bilytske, Mykolaivka, Chervonyi Lyman, Illinivka, Selydove, and other settlements in Donetsk Oblast; Marhanets, Prosiana, Mezhova, Pokrovske, and Orly in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast; as well as the cities of Berdiansk and Orikhiv in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. During the evacuees’ stay in hospitals, social workers at the institutions will look for long-term accommodation options for them.
Together with partners, the East SOS evacuation crews have already helped rescue more than 97,000 people from frontline settlements, including more than 16,000 people with reduced mobility.
Evacuation registration is available via the East SOS call center, operating Monday to Saturday (8:00–18:00): 0800 332 614.
