East SOS Allocated Nearly UAH 3,000,000 to Renovate a Temporary Accommodation Center in Semky Village, Vinnytsia Region
The temporary accommodation center for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Semky village is located in a former school building and can accommodate up to 42 people. Currently, 21 residents live there, and the same number of people are expected to move in soon. We carried out renovation works to increase the number of available beds and significantly improve living conditions.
In particular, classrooms were renovated and zoned to create individual living spaces, and the electrical wiring was completely replaced. All renovation work was carried out in compliance with barrier-free accessibility standards, including the installation of wide doorways and the removal of thresholds, ensuring comfortable access for people with limited mobility.
“In the fourth year of the full-scale invasion, evacuation from the Donetsk region remains in an active phase. For us, it is not just about relocating people – it is a comprehensive cycle of support, which includes assistance at every stage: from evacuation to resettlement in safer regions, access to social services, and everything necessary for a dignified life,” said Yuliia Krasilnykova, Executive Director of East SOS.
The East SOS team systematically monitors temporary accommodation facilities to identify repair needs and improve living conditions. We focus on shelters where it is possible to increase accommodation capacity, with particular attention to the needs of people with limited mobility. Currently, renovation works are underway in six temporary accommodation centers in the Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia, Rivne, and Volyn regions. Once completed, these facilities will provide 350 additional places for evacuees.
The works are being carried out within the framework of the TERA Consortium, with financial support from the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund (UHF). The TERA Consortium was established by the Team4UA Charitable Foundation.
Earlier, East SOS reported on renovation works at a temporary accommodation center aimed at creating more than 350 places for evacuees to resettle.
