Accessibility is not a privilege – it is a fundamental condition for a dignified life. In June, the East SOS team implemented another essential project to improve mobility for people with disabilities: a lifting platform was installed in a shelter in the village of Medvyn, Kyiv region. A total of UAH 319,219 was allocated for the construction of the platform’s foundation and a ramp. The lift itself was procured with the support of Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe.

Today, 36 older adults reside in this shelter run by the Medvyn Village Council’s Social Services Center – most of whom were evacuated from frontline areas by our teams. Thanks to the new platform, residents of the second floor’s inpatient department can now go outside for a walk independently.

“The Foundation’s team has made numerous visits to the shelter in Medvyn to provide psychosocial support and deliver essential furniture for the residents’ comfort. This time, we’ve allocated funds for the installation of a lift,” said Oksana Kolesnyk, Humanitarian Manager at East SOS. “We believe that accessibility is the foundation of a dignified daily life. That’s why we support initiatives that make our environment safer and more humane.”
