Collectivesites for evacuees require not only proper living conditions but also essential resources for everyday operation. This year’s winter was harsh, making it important to begin preparations for the next heating season already now.

In April 2026, thanks to donations, East SOS purchased and delivered firewood for a collective site in Stepan, Rivne Oblast, totaling UAH 139,860.

“We take a comprehensive approach to supporting collective sites. Previously, the Foundation’s team renovated one of the buildings of the Horyn Retreat. The space is already prepared to receive evacuees from frontline areas. Delivering firewood is another important step toward ensuring the facility has adequate heating. We want people who have fled danger to be able to recover in decent conditions,” said Oksana Kolesnyk, Humanitarian Program Manager at East SOS.

With financial support from the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund (UHF), we renovated 19 rooms at the facility: repaired floors, walls, and ceilings; replaced windows and doors; and changed plumbing fixtures. Three rooms on the ground floor were adapted for people with reduced mobility, including the installation of handrails in bathrooms and a ramp at the entrance. The facility is now equipped with the necessary furniture to provide safer and more comfortable living conditions for people post-evacuation.
