On the morning of August 9, russian forces struck a residential building in Kharkiv. Two people were killed and 27 others, including a child, were injured.

East SOS specialists supported local residents and provided 12 legal consultations, 6 psychological consultations, and 6 social consultations.

“One of the families we supported today was a couple who had left Luhansk Oblast in 2022. Everything they had there was destroyed. The spouse got up early this morning to make some pickles. When the strike happened, she was thrown back by the blast wave. She told us that today is their daughter’s birthday, but the first words she said during the phone call were not birthday wishes but ‘Daughter, we’re alive and unharmed’,” East SOS Case Manager Anna Yavtushenko shared.

East SOS Lawyer Anastasiia Klimova shared the story of another family who were asleep when the strike occurred. The grandfather was in a room on the side of the building that was hit. His family members and neighbors had to dig him out from under the rubble themselves because they feared that something might happen to him while they waited for rescuers to arrive. The man is currently in the hospital in grave condition.
