August 9 – Builders’ Day: East SOS Pays Tribute to Ukraine’s Construction Professionals
Daily russian attacks continue to destroy Ukrainian cities and villages. The war has left hundreds of thousands of people without homes or forced them to flee. That is why reconstruction today means giving people the chance to have a roof over their heads again, with access to heat, water, and decent living conditions.
On August 9, Builders’ Day, we thank everyone who helps make this possible. Among them is the East SOS reconstruction team, which works every day to create safer living conditions for people affected by the war.
Being a builder today means:
- restoring a home where a family can once again gather around the table;
- knowing that behind every completed repair is a person taking another step towards a more stable life;
- seeing human stories of loss, hope, and resilience behind drawings, bricks, and concrete;
- restoring critical infrastructure so that hromadas can once again have electricity, heat, and water;
- helping ensure that collective sites and residential care facilities provide comfortable, accessible, and dignified living conditions;
- helping people feel at home again.
Since 2023, the East SOS reconstruction team has been responding to the damage caused by russian attacks. We repair damaged homes in Donetsk and Kharkiv oblasts, restore critical infrastructure in frontline hromadas, and renovate residential care facilities and collective sites.
During this time, the team has completed 1,920 repairs and created 687 places for internally displaced people. Behind each of these figures are people who can once again spend time with their families, rest after a difficult day, and gradually return to a more familiar way of life.
We thank builders, craftsmen, engineers, designers, and all professionals working in the construction sector who contribute to rebuilding Ukraine every day. Your work brings light, heat, and water back to hromadas and makes homes liveable again. You help restore not only damaged buildings but also people’s sense of safety and home.
