67 Cats and 15 Dogs: EAST SOS Supported Anastasiia and Her Pets After Evacuation From Sloviansk

Anastasiia is 28. Together with her husband, she takes care of almost one hundred animals. The couple rescued many of them in Donetsk Oblast.

After the full-scale invasion began, cats and dogs started coming to their house in Sloviansk. Anastasiia and her husband took them in, fed them, and treated them.

Later, the woman started sharing stories about the animals on social media. Then the military began bringing cats to the couple from different parts of the oblast: from streets and veterinary hospitals.

As the security situation in Sloviansk worsened, the family decided they needed to find a new home and evacuate together with all their furry companions.

“We understood that the animals needed to be rescued. Finding a house is very difficult: we were looking for a bigger property so that we could build enclosures for the dogs and provide as much space as possible for the cats,” Anastasiia shared.

The search for a new home lasted almost four months. They looked for a place with a veterinary clinic and a pet shop nearby, eventually finding the perfect spot in Kirovohrad Oblast. All the animals were transported by cars in special cages and carriers.

Now the couple works online to have more time setting up their new space and taking care of their furry friends. Anastasiia also helps shelters and animal volunteers grow their social media.

The EAST SOS Charity Foundation provided the family with cat and dog food. This is part of systematic support for people evacuating with animals: our team helps them leave dangerous areas, and at transit centres, when needed, provides food and carriers.

This year, we also supported the Zaporizhzhia shelter Dai Lapu Druzhe (Give Me a Paw, My Friend), which sustained damage from a russian shelling attack. Food supplies were also provided to Natalia, who fled Orikhiv with 17 cats, and Anna from Novomykolaivka, who was also evacuated together with 15 pets. For Anastasiia and her husband, support from EAST SOS will cover part of the daily needs of more than 80 animals while the family settles into their new place.

Each of these animals has its own story, but now there are people nearby who will not abandon them.

We remind you that recently we shared stories of supporting families and their pets.
