Integrated humanitarian response for conflict-affected Ukrainians and third-country nationals in Ukraine, Poland, Romania and Moldova

Everyone on the large Charity Foundation “East SOS” team is professional. Among us, there are, in particular, the most attentive psychologists, the most careful drivers, and the most meticulous lawyers.

In the conditions of war, there is knowledge that is equally important for everyone. First aid courses are included in the team’s mandatory training. This time, the field of human rights protection improved its knowledge thanks to the “Stop The Bleed” course from the Center for Tactical Medicine “SHYD”, which is based on the latest evidence.

“Colleagues have repeatedly noted that some things were explained to us differently during previous trainings. The trainers understood the questions and gave justifications for why this or that method is relevant, taking into account the updated statistical data,” commented lawyer Anastasia Faraonova.

We emphasize the importance of constantly updating your knowledge of pre-medical care, even if you have already completed training. In addition, regular repetition improves skills and builds confidence.

“It’s cool that I could bring all the knowledge to a clear algorithm. I now know it is important not to make unnecessary movements but to act according to the instructions. I have to follow this instruction to save a person. In a critical situation, I can take responsibility and do the maximum of what I know and can do,” added lawyer Hanna Dondyk.

Specialists practiced applying tourniquets and using various equipment, such as defibrillators. Mastered work with massive bleeding, dislocations, fractures, hypothermia, etc.

The training was implemented within the framework of the project “Comprehensive measures for humanitarian response to the needs of conflict-affected Ukrainians and citizens of third countries in Ukraine, Poland, Romania, and Moldova” with the support of Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe and with funding from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
