The East SOS team has supported the animal shelter Dai Lapu Druzhe (Give Me a Paw, My Friend), which was attacked by russian drones on February 6
As a result of the shelling, 13 dogs were killed, and 7 more were injured. The buildings and enclosures suffered significant damage and now require restoration.
To support the animals, our team has donated over 15 packages of dry food. This aid is provided to the evacuated four-legged residents with the support of our partners – the international humanitarian organization U-Hearts Foundation.
The shelter is home to more than 430 animals. Their number has significantly increased since the full-scale invasion began. Some dogs were evacuated from the front-line areas, while others have been brought in after being injured in car accidents or abandoned by their owners. All of them require constant care and support and are looking for new homes.
According to volunteers, the biggest need right now is restoring the full operation of the shelter in the city of Zaporizhzhia so that it can continue to accept animals evacuated from the front-line areas and provide assistance to the injured ones. The shelter also requires support for the partial evacuation of animals from Zaporizhzhia to a safer location. Unfortunately, the Dai Lapu Druzhe shelter has already been targeted by enemy strikes more than once, so there is a constant threat to both the animals and the people who care for them and give them their love.
Recently, we shared how the East SOS team supports people and their pets during evacuation.
