The East SOS Team Has Helped 10 People Move To A Permanent Safe Haven
Among them is 87-year-old Hanna from the village of Yarova, in the Lyman community of the Donetsk region. In September this year, she endured a terrible loss: the occupiers launched an airstrike on civilians waiting to receive their pensions near the Ukrposhta vehicle. Her son was among those killed – he had gone there simply to collect his pension.
“After this tragedy, almost all of the neighbors left our street. I stayed, and it was very loud. I didn’t know what to do and was waiting for my passport to be returned – my son had it with him during the shelling… I can’t hold back my tears, it’s very hard to talk about it. After his death, I was left without support. Now I hope that in the new place, there will be someone to take care of me,” said Hanna.
Our team helped Hanna, along with other older adults and people with disabilities evacuated from the frontline areas of the Donetsk region, relocate to a residential care facility in the Ternopil region.
For each of them, this is not just a relocation – it’s a new chapter of life. Some people had been living for a long time at the Transit Center for Social Adaptation of People with Disabilities run by the NGO “Ocean of Good”, while others were only recently evacuated from areas under shelling.
During this period, we made sure that everyone felt safe and cared for:
- organized temporary shelter;
- provided legal and psychosocial support from our specialists;
- ensured transportation to the evacuation train and assistance during the journey to the host community.
East SOS continues to systematically search for safe resettlement options across different regions of Ukraine. This is how the “queue of life” moves forward in the frontline areas – each relocation becomes a new opportunity to save those still under fire and to welcome them to safety in Dnipro for temporary resettlement.
