Recently, a new mechanism for the temporary placement of evacuees who are unable to live independently and require constant care has been launched in Ukraine.

Thanks to the successful collaboration between the East SOS team, the Department of Social Protection of Donetsk Oblast, and the Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine, 20 individuals with reduced mobility from Donetsk Oblast have been relocated to temporary accommodation. This includes senior citizens and people with disabilities, who are now staying at the city hospital in Novomyrhorod, Kirovohrad Oblast.

The institution has been accredited to provide long-term nursing care for up to 60 days. This means evacuees can stay in a safe environment, receiving daily care and support while the Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine searches for permanent housing or appropriate long-term care solutions.

The evacuees come from various cities in Donetsk Oblast, such as Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka, Sloviansk, Horlivka, Avdiivka, and Bilozerske, as well as villages and settlements like Ilich, Blahodatne, Hryshyne, Sofiivka, Bohodarivka, and Kalynove.

These individuals, aged 49 to 96, were welcomed by the Center for Social Adaptation for People with Disabilities (run by the NGO Ocean of Good) in Dnipro immediately after fleeing danger.

Among those rescued by the East SOS team is 84-year-old Valentyna from Kramatorsk. Despite the ongoing shelling and danger, she remained in her hometown but was no longer able to care for herself. Another evacuee, 66-year-old Serhiy from Sloviansk, who has mobility challenges and requires rehabilitation.

Once this phase is complete, the evacuees will have access to supported living services or hospital admission, based on the Money Follows the Person (MFP) principle.

The East SOS team, in collaboration with its partners, has already helped rescue over 95,000 people from frontline areas, including more than 15,000 people with reduced mobility.

You can register for evacuation via the East SOS hotline, which operates Monday to Saturday (8:00 AM – 6:00 PM): 0800 332 614.
