The quality of life and living conditions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in host communities depend largely on the condition of shelters where they settle. In August, the East SOS Charity Foundation procured and delivered construction materials and equipment to improve facilities in Dnipro and Kropyvnytskyi. This support creates a more comfortable environment for IDPs, including people with limited mobility.

The donation to Dnipro shelter amounted to UAH 91,705 and included:

  • vapor barrier film for roofing – 525 m²;
  • roofing waterproofing film – 525 m²;
  • steel sheet profiles PS-20 with polymer coating – 230 m²;
  • wind strips – 28 pcs;
  • ridge strips – 25 pcs;
  • valley strips – 6 pcs;
  • wood screws with hexagonal head, drill, and EPDM washer – 5,500 pcs.

The donation to Kropyvnytskyi shelter totaled UAH 98,100 and included:

  • 3 dryers;
  • 3 washing machines.

“For people who have been forced to leave their homes, shelters are places where they can regain stability and feel safe. That is why both building materials and furniture are of great importance: they make the shelters livable,” said Oksana Kolesnyk, Humanitarian Manager at East SOS.

For the rehabilitation of civilians and veterans who suffered from shelling, captivity, or occupation, East SOS donated gardening equipment worth UAH 68,621 to support therapeutic gardening. The center in Odesa received 336 items, including gloves, hoses, shovels, rakes, brush cutters, a sprayer, a broom, paint, a scoop, scissors, a hoe, pots, and mats.

“Therapeutic gardening restores people’s life rhythm, helps them feel in control of the situation, and, most importantly, supports recovery from stress. That is why the Foundation donated gardening tools for the residents of the rehabilitation center — to encourage their recovery by doing something pleasant and useful for their mental health,” said Yuliia Krat, Psychological Direction Coordinator at East SOS.
